Congratulations on your pregnancy! It’s a really exciting time for any couple, and emotions are running high all the time. For that reason you might be growing increasingly indecisive, or you just don’t know if it’s a good idea to have a maternity photoshoot on your next vacation. Is it frivolous? Is it corny? Maybe you don’t feel like your normal self and aren’t feeling too sexy to pose for the camera. Well, I’m here to help you choose if a maternity shoot is right for you! Sit back and relax as I share with you some of the reasons why I think it’s a good idea.

A maternity photoshoot is an announcement

You might have already told your loved ones, but it’s not the same as having a public announcement like this. It’s also possible that some of those relatives and friends you told about the pregnancy haven’t had the chance to see you yet, so it’s going to serve more than one purpose. Tell the world about the baby coming your way and don’t be ashamed! It’s a gorgeous moment in your life and you can gush about it as much as you want!

It might be your first taste of motherhood

Adapting to the role of a mother is a gradual process, and this might just be the step you need to get there. This could be the first moment where you really get to embrace your baby bump and awaken some maternal instinct inside you that you didn’t know you had! The photoshoot features you alone with your belly, and there’s nothing more intimate that these moments.

Do a maternity photoshoot as a treat for yourself

Do you love photoshoots? Maybe you love posing for the camera, showing off, and telling your friends all about it. That’s great if you ask me! You’re one of the lucky ones! Sharing is one of the greatest joys in life, and as a mother your life can get complicated, so why don’t you treat yourself with a photoshoot before the baby arrives? It’s going to be lots of fun and you know it! Just be bold and go for it! There’s also the added bonus of travelling for a photoshoot, which could make this an even juicier idea. Might I suggest Punta Cana’s beaches?

Do a maternity photoshoot to include your family

This is kind of a combination of the previous points. Nothing says you should be taking the pictures on your own, so why should you? Your pregnancy is as much about you as it is about the people in your life. Things are about to change, after all. Let your significant other be there for you, holding your belly with you. If you already have kids, this is a nice chance to bond with the new baby in your belly! Your parents, friends – everyone’s invited to this session! The pictures are only half of the experience because you will be left with unforgettable memories that are worth way more than the photos. Though don’t get me wrong, the photos will be amazing!

Add it as part of your baby shower

What better way to end the evening than with a photoshoot! You’ll be surrounded by the people that have been with you through the entire process and who, most definitely, will be there for you when the baby is born. You’ve been through a lot and there’s more to come, so this could prove to be a nice chance to make some memories before the big day!

Or maybe it just feels right

Emotions are complicated, to say the least. Sometimes our minds tell us to do something and we don’t know why, but we really want to. And do we even need a logical reason? It feels right and it’s what you want, so is there anything else that needs to be said? Go for it. You will be much happier once you have the photos! Follow your heart; you’re the mother, you know best!

In the end it’s your choice, but know that I fully support the decision of a maternity photoshoot. They’re just so beautiful! Do what your heart tells you and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Choosing not to have it a valid option too! You can celebrate your pregnancy however you’d like, there are no guidelines.
