There is nothing more frustrating than a picture that looks off. You don’t know what it is: is it your hair, is it the angle, or is it the lightning? You were SURE it would be perfect, but something just isn’t right! And the more photos you take, the more you realize that it isn’t a good day for photos. Everyone has those days, but that doesn’t mean you should!

tips to have the perfect photoshoot

Here are some small tips to have the perfect photoshoot in Punta Cana. These will remove some of those subtle changes, and you’ll notice a big difference before and after.

Avoid sunglasses!

It’s really hard to notice, but sunglasses will leave marks on your eyes after you take them off. In general, unless you absolutely must, try not to wear any glasses before a photoshoot. Those marks will give you a sad, tired look, and even if your skin is glowing and your outfit has been carefully picked, you will have a slightly sick look on your face… Anything that is pressed against your face will leave these marks that can take hours (or days) to disappear, and no, they don’t go away easily with makeup. You can wear your sunglasses after, or even during the photoshoot, but not for too long! We don’t want any accidents!

Remember to take care of your skin

Since you’re in Punta Cana, you’re definitely going to the beach more than once. And that’s okay, we all do it! Everyone loves to sunbathe. But, if you’re going to, and I know you will, you should wear sunscreen religiously. Not only on the day of the photoshoot, but every single day of your stay; yes, it’s boring and tedious, but it will not only prevent burns, but you will also make sure your skin is healthy and gorgeous. It’s also a good idea to use a moisturizer in general, but even more so when you’re preparing for a photoshoot!

Eat and rest enough

I get it, you’re excited, and yes, it’s fine to be! But you need to rest enough to prepare for your session. While some things will make you look sick, you will not want to actually be sick! Everyone can tell when you haven’t slept enough, so treat your body right and take that nap that you’ve been putting off. You’ll appreciate the extra rest, I know! Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are a must. Can’t look beautiful on an empty stomach, no sir.

Plan your day – and make enough time!

You need to reserve enough time for the photoshoot. This is one of the most important tips to have a perfect photoshoot! You’re going to need enough time to take several pictures in different poses, in different locations, and with different people. If you’re doing a family photoshoot particularly, dealing with kids can be messy and time-consuming. Calming them down can take hours, and the last thing you want is to waste your day. All of those fun, exciting activities you wanted to do can wait while you finish up taking the pictures that will last forever, so you better take it seriously!

Sunset? Midday? Early morning? Midnight? You choose!

An essential part of photography is colors. You don’t simply have to choose what you want to wear, because you will also want the right time of day for the pictures. Lightning is very different and impacts the look of the photo a lot. For example, if you decide to take pictures during the sunset you’ll be showered with muted oranges, pink, and yellow; in the early morning, however, the sky is clear and blue, very bright and strong. Photos taken at these two times vary wildly, so you definitely want to choose the one that suits you best! If it’s cloudy and rainy, don’t worry! You’ll still get amazing photos.

Light sensitive?

If you have problems adjusting to the light because, after all, Punta Cana is very bright and sunny, this is another factor to consider. But don’t worry, this can easily be worked around: in the same way you planned your day before, you’ll also have to add into the mix the best time for you to be outside. This isn’t necessarily a problem for some people, but someone in your group is going to squint in every picture and that does not look good in your living room, photo album, or Instagram feed!

We can’t always be ready for every minute detail that might go wrong, but you can and should take control of your day! Follow these minor tips to have the perfect photoshoot! You’ll save time and money by ensuring your session goes smoothly, and by the end of the day you can rest knowing it couldn’t have gone better. These tips apply for many more occasions, so feel free to take from this anything you want! But most importantly, enjoy the photos you’ll take. That’s all that matters in the end.
