Punta Cana is a popular tourist destination located at the eastern tip of the Dominican Republic. And it’s popular for a reason… For the beautiful beaches and great weather all year round!
As you start to plan your trip, you’ll want to consider the weather and decide when is the best time to go. So let’s find out!
What is the weather like in Punta Cana?
The weather in Punta Cana is amazing!! It’s a tropical climate so it’s warm all year round, with temperatures pretty much staying around 80°F (27°C).
In the summertime (June-September) you’ll have to face the humidity, making it feel much hotter. Some days can get up to 95% humidity which means you’ll definitely be sweating. But relax! You’ll be on vacation, so you’ll be in the ocean or lounging by the pool the whole time anyway. And luckily there’s always a nice breeze at the beach. Just remember to load up on sunscreen!
In the winter months (December-March) it’s hot during the day, but it cools off at night. This is the ideal time for most tourists and is considered “high-season.” The temperature is mild and very pleasant. It’s exactly the type of weather you’ll be dreaming of when winter hits in the US & Canada.
Rainy Season in Punta Cana
Spoiler alert: there is no real rainy season in Punta Cana.
May and October are typically the “rainiest” months, but even still, they only average about 5 inches of rainfall each. To be honest, rain isn’t really something to be worried about here. When it does rain, it typically lasts for about 10-15 minutes and then blows over.
A lot of people get worried the days before they travel, constantly checking their weather app and seeing a full week of rain. That doesn’t mean it will be rainy all day every day of your vacation. It may rain for a few minutes in the morning and be completely sunny the whole rest of the day. Or it may shower for a few minutes in the afternoon. But chances are, you won’t have a full week of constantly rainy days. That’s very uncommon.
Hurricane Season in Punta Cana
The hurricane season is from June to November, but September seems to be the most active month based on previous years.
The Best Time to Visit Punta Cana
So what’s the verdict? The best time to visit Punta Cana depends. Sorry to spoil the big question. But there is not one solid answer.
If you like mild temperatures and don’t mind putting up with the crowds, November-March is ideal.
If you want to soak up as much sun, heat, and humidity as possible, June-August would be best.
Looking for a good deal? May, September, and October are the best time for you.
Hoping for something in between? April is the time to come.
Truly any time is a good time to come to Punta Cana! We’ll be waiting for you!
