One of the first questions you ask yourself before planning a trip should always be “is it safe?” Mostly because you don’t want anything going wrong during your vacation. And hey, I get it! It’s new and exciting, but can also be scary and daunting. So is it safe to visit Punta Cana? Well, that is one of the last things you should worry about when visiting Punta Cana. You see, we’re one of the safest destinations for tourists, and I’m here to tell you why!

The beaches are not just beautiful, but very safe

When you look at our beaches you’re bound to want to dive in. And who wouldn’t? Pristine shores with perfectly white sand and deep, deep turquoise seas that look like they belong in a fairy tale. And you know what? They might as well. Not only are they gorgeous and scenic (perfect for a photoshoot if you ask me), they’re perfectly safe for everyone. Yes, the water is swimmable, and yes, the whole family can enjoy it. Put on some sunscreen, pick a spot, and go for it! You’ll love them, I can assure you.

Besides, just take a look. Don’t you just want to give it a try?

Is it safe to visit Punta Cana during hurricane season?

Well, this is a little more complicated, but just follow my tips and you should be fine. Yes, we have a hurricane season and it can be very intimidating, but you shouldn’t worry so long as you visit after it has passed.
Hurricane season lasts from June to November, and you’re more likely to encounter a hurricane in September. This is why it’s recommended to visit from December to April when the weather is ready for tourism and for all of those activities you want to do!

Can you drink the water?

You should generally avoid tap water during your stay at Punta Cana and other parts of the Dominican Republic. I can’t recommend it because it might be a health concern, and it’s a good idea to drink bottled water instead. But, luckily, you will be provided with plenty of clean water to choose from no matter where you stay.

Are the streets safe?

Yes! This is one of the strongest points we have. Punta Cana is one of the safest places to visit because of the heavy security presence. You can walk around freely, knowing nothing will come to harm you! Beaches are protected this way too, so you can relax by the seaside without any concerns. One thing you should note, though, is that guards don’t patrol the beaches at night, so it’s in your best interest to avoid them once the sun sets. Don’t worry, the streets will still be safe, allowing you to enjoy our nightlife!

Can I explore on my own?

Generally, yes. The area where you’ll be staying won’t pose any risk to you or your loved ones. Feel free to discover Punta Cana at your own pace and rhythm! However, the same can’t be said for the rest of the island, and you should stay with our guides when you venture past this area. It’s mostly for extra security, but the risk is still quite low.

So is it any different from most places? Not really. Punta Cana is a paradise on earth, and we even have the Paradisus Resorts to prove my point! So long as you don’t go around looking for trouble (which I know you won’t) the experience should be comfortable and safe.

Live out your dreamed vacation and enjoy the many beauties our island has to offer! And don’t forget to get pictures for everyone back home, you’ll definitely want to remember this experience.
